I don’t think I have ever described my emotive state as ‘mighty’ before. But today I feel mighty.
I feel mighty because I severed the tie between the way other people speak or behave towards me and my own self worth.
I had been feeling rather down about the way someone had spoken to me at work. Some barbed, backhanded comments which had made me question my abilities and competence.
But then I came home and read an incredibly inspiring post by hAAthi Time, purely by chance. In it she quoted Yogi Bhajan:
If you are willing to look at another person’s behaviour toward you as a reflection of the state of their relationship with themselves rather than a statement about your value as a person, then you will, over a period of time, cease to react at all.
And now I feel mighty. Because no one determines my value but me.
Not Instagram models, my partner, my colleagues. Not old friends, new friends or enemies. Just me.
I think that’s something we all need reminding of sometimes.
